A tale of two cities 1859 is a historical novel by charles dickens set in london and paris before and during the french revolution the novel tells the story of the french doctor manette his 18 year long imprisonment in the bastille in paris and his release to live in london with his daughter lucie whom he had never met. A tale of two cities has the best of dickens and the worst of dickens a dark driven opening and a celestial but melodramatic ending a terrifyingly demonic villainess and even by dickens standards an impossibly angelic heroine. A tale of two cities was the first charles dickens novel i read on my own not because an english class required it looking at you great expectations i was going on a cross country trip and decided this would be a good book to while away the hours. The tale of two cities is a very good book about the 1700s the author uses fake characters to describe the life abd times there this is an excellent book for those who want history but a little fun too. A tale of two cities was the twelfth novel of charles dickens the first chapters of the book appeared in print in april of 1859 the first chapters of the book appeared in print in april of 1859 the last chapter was printed in november of that same year
